How do I make a packing slip and a return (RMA) form for free?
Enter your store and customer details, the order number and date, and the items with SKU and quantity. The tool builds a packing slip and a return / RMA form — with an RMA number, an optional scannable barcode and a reason code per item — that you download as a print-ready PDF. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Packing slip: order number/date, sold-by + ship-to addresses, itemised SKUs, quantities and optional prices
Return / RMA form: RMA number + optional Code 128 barcode, per-item return reason codes, refund vs exchange, return-to address and policy
Print-ready A4 or US Letter PDF with selectable text, built locally with pdf-lib
100% client-side — customer and order data (PII) never leaves your device
Not a prepaid postage label — buy the trackable return shipping label from your carrier or platform
What is
Return Form & Packing Slip
A packing slip is the itemised record of what is in a shipment (order number, addresses, items, SKUs and quantities). A return / RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) form is the paperwork a customer encloses to return items — an RMA number, the items with a return reason code, and the return-to address and policy. Neither is a prepaid carrier postage label.
A packing slip lists what is in the box; a return/RMA form is the paperwork to send items back; a return shipping label is trackable carrier postage. This tool makes the first two, not the postage label.
A packing slip goes inside the box and itemises the order — order number, addresses, items, SKUs and quantities. A return or RMA form is the document a customer fills in to return items: it carries an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number, the items being returned each with a reason code, and the return-to address, instructions and policy. A return shipping label is different again — it is a carrier label with real, paid, trackable postage and a tracking barcode. This generator builds the packing slip and the return/RMA form as a PDF; it does not and cannot generate valid prepaid postage for free in the browser.
Standard ones: defective, arrived damaged, wrong item, not as described, wrong size/fit, changed mind, found a better price, arrived late, quality, or other.
Each line item can be tagged with a standard return reason code so you can track why customers return things. The tool offers defective/not working, arrived damaged, wrong item received, not as described, wrong size or poor fit, changed mind / no longer needed, found a better price, arrived too late, quality not as expected, and other (see notes). Setting a reason on a line marks it as a returning item on the RMA form; lines with no reason stay on the packing slip only.
No. Valid trackable postage cannot be created for free client-side. Buy the return label from your carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx) or platform (Shopify, Easyship, Shippo).
No — this tool deliberately does not produce a prepaid carrier shipping label. Real postage requires a paid carrier account and a trackable, scannable label issued by USPS, UPS, FedEx, Royal Mail or a platform such as Shopify, Easyship or Shippo (often pay-on-scan), so it cannot be generated for free entirely in the browser. The tool builds the packing slip and the return/RMA form to put inside the box; the return-to address block is for the customer to copy or affix to the parcel, but it carries no postage and is not trackable on its own.
Yes — the RMA barcode is a real Code 128 rendered locally with jsbarcode. All customer and order data stays in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
The optional RMA barcode is a genuine Code 128 barcode encoding your RMA number, rendered locally with the jsbarcode library so a warehouse scanner can read it to look up the return. Everything — the customer name and address, order number, item SKUs, prices and the RMA — is processed only on your device, and the PDF is assembled in the browser with pdf-lib, so no PII is uploaded, logged or stored on a server. The optional Save draft uses this browser’s localStorage only.
Detailed Explanation
📖How It Works
Packing Slip + Return/RMA Form, Built Entirely In-Browser
AnyTool’s Return Form & Packing Slip Generator produces two e-commerce documents from one set of order data, 100% client-side. The packing slip is the itemised record placed inside a shipment — order number and date, sold-by / ship-from and ship-to addresses, and a line-item table of item name, SKU, quantity and optional prices with a subtotal. The return / RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) form is the paperwork a customer encloses to send items back — an RMA number with an optional scannable Code 128 barcode, the items being returned each tagged with a standard reason code, the requested resolution, numbered return instructions, the return-to address and the return-window policy.
Two documents: a packing slip and a return/RMA form, on their own PDF pages
Packing slip: order #/date, sold-by + ship-to, items with SKU + qty + optional price + subtotal
Print-ready A4 or US Letter PDF with selectable text, assembled locally with pdf-lib
No upload, server, CDN or tracking — safe for customer PII; works offline once cached
⚙️Methodology
RMA Number, Reason Codes and the Scannable Barcode
A return merchandise authorization (RMA) number identifies an approved return so it can be tracked end to end. The tool auto-suggests an RMA from the order number (e.g. order ORD-2026-001 → RMA-ORD2026001) or lets you type your own, and can render a real, scannable Code 128 barcode of that RMA with the jsbarcode library so a warehouse can scan it on receipt. Each line item can carry a standard return reason code — defective, arrived damaged, wrong item, not as described, wrong size/fit, changed mind, better price, late, quality or other — so returns can be analysed for product-quality trends. Setting a reason marks the line as a returning item; lines with no reason remain on the packing slip only.
RMA auto-suggested from the order number, or entered manually
Optional genuine Code 128 RMA barcode rendered locally (jsbarcode) for scanning on receipt
Standard reason codes: DEFECTIVE, DAMAGED, WRONG-ITEM, NOT-AS-DESCRIBED, SIZE-FIT, CHANGED-MIND, BETTER-PRICE, LATE-DELIVERY, QUALITY, OTHER
Resolution choices: refund, exchange, store credit or repair
A reason code per line drives which items appear on the return form
⚠️Limitations
Honest Scope: Not a Prepaid Carrier Postage Label
This tool is deliberately not a prepaid shipping-label generator. A return shipping label carries real, paid, trackable postage and a carrier tracking barcode, which requires a paid carrier account and a label issued by USPS, UPS, FedEx, Royal Mail or a platform such as Shopify, Easyship or Shippo (often billed pay-on-scan) — so valid postage cannot be created for free entirely in the browser. The generator builds the packing slip and the return/RMA form to print and put inside the box; the return-to address block is for the customer to copy or affix to the parcel but carries no postage and is not trackable on its own. Buy the actual trackable return label from your carrier or e-commerce platform.
Not a prepaid postage label — no trackable carrier postage is generated
Real postage needs a paid carrier account / platform label (USPS, UPS, FedEx, Shopify, Easyship, Shippo…)
The return-to address here is for the customer to write or affix, not trackable postage
The RMA barcode is for internal return lookup, not carrier tracking
Customer & order PII is processed only on-device; nothing is uploaded
