Detailed Explanation

Technical Details

How it works

JSZip opens the .odt and content.xml is walked in order: text:h → headings by outline level, text:p → paragraphs, text:span → styled text, text:list → bulleted or numbered lists (from the list style), table:table → tables with spanned cells, draw:frame → pictures or text-box text. Styles from styles.xml and the automatic styles are resolved through their parent styles.

  • content.xml walked in order
  • Style inheritance
Limitations

What is left out

Tracked-change history and comments are not copied, so deleted text never reappears. Fonts, page layout, headers and footers and columns are not copied, and WMF/EMF/SVM pictures cannot be decoded in a browser.

  • No tracked changes
  • No WMF/EMF
