How the Typing Speed Test Works
AnyTool Typing Speed Test runs entirely in the browser. The timer starts on your first keystroke, not when the page loads, so results are accurate. As you type the shown passage it compares your input to the target character by character and colours each one correct or incorrect, with the current position highlighted. Words per minute follow the standard five-characters-per-word model: total characters divided by five, normalised to sixty seconds.
- Timing begins on the first keystroke for accurate WPM
- WPM uses the conventional 5-characters-per-word model
- Net WPM counts only correct characters; gross WPM counts all
- Per-character comparison drives live colour-coded feedback
- All scoring is client-side JavaScript — no server round-trip
