How do I convert an EPUB to Word?

Drop the .epub on EPUB to Word, choose the page size and font, and click Convert to Word. The chapters are placed in the book's reading order, each on a new page, with headings, pictures and tables, and you download an editable .docx. It works for DRM-free books and runs in your browser.

  • Chapters in reading order, each on a new page
  • Chapter headings work in Word's navigation pane
  • Pictures, tables, lists and links kept

Detailed Explanation

Technical Details

How it works

JSZip opens the EPUB; container.xml leads to the OPF package, whose manifest and spine give the chapters in reading order. Each chapter's XHTML is converted to Word headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and pictures, with pictures read from inside the archive.

  • OPF spine order
  • XHTML to Word
Limitations

DRM

If META-INF/encryption.xml lists real encryption, the book is DRM-protected and cannot be read. Font obfuscation alone (used by many publishers to protect embedded fonts) is not DRM, and those books convert.

  • Font obfuscation is fine
Limitations

Styling

The book's CSS classes and stylesheets are not applied; inline styles, semantic tags (em, strong, h1–h6) and the font you choose determine the look.

  • Structure kept, CSS not
