How do I convert a PowerPoint to a Word document?

Drop the .pptx on PPT to Word, choose what to include (slide text and tables, speaker notes, slide pictures) and click Convert to Word. Each slide becomes a 'Slide N: title' heading with its text below, and you download a .docx. It runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

  • Slide titles as headings, bullets with their levels
  • Speaker notes under each slide
  • Optional picture of each slide, like a handout
  • PowerPoint tables become Word tables

Detailed Explanation

Technical Details

How slides are read

The slide order comes from ppt/presentation.xml. In each slide's shape tree, the title placeholder becomes the heading; body placeholders become bulleted items at their outline level; other text boxes become paragraphs; tables (a:tbl) become Word tables; and the notes slide's body text becomes the speaker notes.

  • OOXML shape tree
  • Notes slides
Limitations

Slide pictures

When 'Slide pictures' is on, each slide is drawn by the same renderer as AnyTool's PPT to Images and placed above its text at the page width. The drawing is a best effort: charts, SmartArt and gradients are simplified.
