Frequently Asked Questions

Close, not identical.

The pages are laid out by AnyTool's own engine (the one behind Word to PDF), so lines and pages can break in different places than in Word. Text, headings, lists, tables and pictures are drawn; text boxes, shapes, charts, headers and footers are not.

Not yet.

Text is drawn with standard fonts that cover English and Western European languages; other scripts show as '?'. For those documents, save the document as PDF in Word, then use PDF to PNG.

No.

The document is read, laid out and drawn inside your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

150 dpi for sharing, 300 for print.

96 dpi suits screens, 150 dpi is sharp for sharing, and 300 dpi is print quality: an A4 page at 300 dpi is 2,480 × 3,508 pixels.

Yes.

Choose JPG for smaller files (saved at 92% quality); PNG is lossless and sharper for text.

No; .docx only.

Old .doc files must be saved as .docx in Word, Pages or LibreOffice first.

Detailed Explanation

Technical Details

How the pages are made

JSZip reads the .docx; its paragraphs, runs, lists, tables and pictures are laid out on pages with pdf-lib by the same engine as AnyTool's Word to PDF; pdf.js then draws each page on a canvas at the chosen resolution, saved as PNG or JPG.

  • Same engine as Word to PDF
  • pdf.js rendering
Limitations

Limits

Line and page breaks can differ from Microsoft Word, manual page breaks are not kept, and text boxes, shapes, charts, headers and footers are not drawn. Text in scripts beyond Western European languages appears as '?'.

  • Latin-script text only
  • No headers or text boxes
How It Works

Pixel sizes

Pixels = inches × dpi. A4 (8.27 × 11.69 in) is 794 × 1,123 px at 96 dpi, 1,240 × 1,754 at 150 dpi and 2,480 × 3,508 at 300 dpi.

  • A4 at 300 dpi: 2,480 × 3,508
